Look good. Feel good. Do good.

Look good. Feel good. Do good.

**Have you ever encountered this saying? “You have to look good to feel good, and to do good.”**

I was reminded of this recently when I had a routine visit with my gynecologist. As we wrapped up our consultation, I casually asked her about her plans for the next day—her day off. She shared that she had a mani-pedi and lash appointment with her stylist booked. It got me thinking.

It’s so true. We all need to look after ourselves, not just for the sake of others, but because when we feel good, we’re better equipped to give our best to the world.

Let me give you an example. We all know that when we’re happy, that joy just radiates outward. It’s contagious. We smile more, we’re more patient, more kind. Happiness has this beautiful way of flowing out of us, influencing everyone and everything we encounter.

This conversation with my GYN made me think of a saying I’ve heard before: *“The way you act is a reflection of how you feel inside.”* If you’re acting out, being rude, or impatient, it might be because there’s something inside that’s unresolved. You can’t hide it. It’s going to come out.

And it’s the same with the idea that *“You can’t give what you don’t have.”* If you’re not feeling good inside, you won’t be able to uplift others around you. Think about bullies—they don’t feel good inside themselves, so they project that negativity onto others. The same goes for anyone who’s overly critical or mean-spirited—they’re likely struggling with their own inner pain or unhappiness.

This concept always reminds me of an analogy I love: *The Spilled Coffee*. Picture this: You accidentally knock over a cup, and coffee spills out. Why? Because that’s what was inside the cup. If there had been tea inside, then tea would have spilled out. The same is true with us. When life doesn’t go the way we expect, what spills out is a reflection of what’s inside us.

– If your cup is full of anger, anger is what will spill out when you’re bumped.
– If your cup is full of jealousy, then jealousy will spill out when you see someone else’s success.
– If your cup is full of love and joy, then love and joy will spill out, even in difficult times.

In a world where we’re constantly juggling work, responsibilities, and everything else life throws our way, it’s easy to forget how important it is to take care of ourselves. Taking time to look good, whether that’s through a spa day, a workout, or simply dressing up to feel confident, is not selfish. It’s actually a vital form of self-care, and it plays a huge role in how we show up in the world.

Maybe that’s the secret to my GYN’s always positive attitude—taking time for herself, knowing that when she looks after her own well-being, she can be her best self for others.

Self-care isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity. And when we’re happy and whole inside, it’s not just about us anymore—it spills over into every interaction we have, making the world a little bit brighter. 🌟
