Celebrating Mother’s Day does not always need to mean a huge trip or an expensive getaway. Sometimes, the sweetest memories come from a simple staycation filled with comfort, good food, and time spent together as a family. Recently, we celebrated Mother’s Day at Aquarius Hotel and Urban Resort, and it turned out to be a lovely choice for a relaxing family escape.

Overall, our experience at Aquarius Hotel was warm, enjoyable, and memorable. From the moment we checked in, we knew this stay would be about rest, bonding, and little moments of happiness. We booked a Deluxe Twin Room with two single beds, a balcony, and a bathroom setup with a separate toilet and bath, which worked well for our family. What we loved most, though, was not just the room itself, but the hotel’s amenities. Aquarius Hotel has a lot to offer, especially for families who want a comfortable stay with great views, good dining options, and relaxing spaces.
Below is our honest review of the hotel, including what we loved, what could be improved, and why we still give Aquarius Hotel 5 stars.

A Light and Comfortable Room
The Deluxe Twin Room that we booked was bright and airy, which made a big difference in how comfortable our stay felt. There were many windows, and we really liked how much natural light came in during the day. It gave the room a cheerful and open feeling, which is always nice when you are staying in a hotel for a family celebration.
The setup of the room was practical too, but honestly, the beds were quite small so I didn’t feel very comfortable while sleeping. The balcony, however, was a nice added touch. It made the room feel more open and relaxing, and it was pleasant to have a little outdoor space where we could enjoy the view and get some fresh air for a while.

The bathroom arrangement was also convenient because the toilet and bath were separate. For families, this is a helpful feature because it makes getting ready easier, especially if multiple people are sharing the room.
There was a smart TV in the room, which is always appreciated during a staycation. We were able to use Netflix without any problem, but for some reason we could not get YouTube to work. That was a small inconvenience, but not a major issue for us because we were more focused on relaxing and enjoying the hotel amenities.
The air-conditioning unit worked okay, though it was placed a little far from the beds, so we did feel warm during the night. Fortunately, there was also a ceiling fan in the main room area, and that helped a lot. In the end, this made the room still comfortable enough for a good night’s rest.
The Infinity Pool Is the Star of the Stay
If there is one feature that truly stands out at Aquarius Hotel, it is the infinity pool on the rooftop. This was one of our favorite parts of the entire stay. The pool is L-shaped, which gives it a unique and stylish feel. Around the pool are lounge beds, making it easy to relax, sunbathe, chat, or simply enjoy the view.

What makes the rooftop pool even more special is the scenery. On one side, you can see the Independence Monument, and on the other, you have a beautiful view of the river. Both views are spectacular, and they really add to the experience. It is the kind of place where you can just sit back, breathe deeply, and feel grateful for the moment.

Another lovely touch is that you can order drinks and food from the menu while relaxing by the pool. During our visit, we tried a few items, and they were all enjoyable. We ordered green apple and cucumber freeze, pineapple banana shake, grilled sausage, and zucchini fritters. Everything tasted good and felt refreshing, especially in the rooftop setting. The drinks were a pleasant way to cool down, and the snacks made the pool time feel even more special.

The rooftop pool at Aquarius Hotel is not just for swimming. It is a place to unwind, share conversations, enjoy snacks, and create memories together.
A Fun Billiards Table for Bonding Time
Another feature we appreciated was the billiards table. This may seem like a small detail, but it adds a lot to the atmosphere of the hotel. It is a great option for bonding and casual fun, especially when you want something light and entertaining between meals or after a swim.

The billiards table is located near the dining area, which makes it easy to use before or after eating. It gave us another way to spend time together, laugh, and enjoy the evening in a relaxed setting. Family trips are not only about sleeping in a hotel room; they are also about shared experiences, and this was one of those little extras that made the stay more memorable.

Breakfast Buffet That Feels Complete and Satisfying
Breakfast is always an important part of any hotel stay, and Aquarius Hotel made it easy and organized. Upon check-in, they gave us breakfast tickets, which we presented to the staff during breakfast time. This system was simple and clear.
The breakfast buffet had a nice variety. There were fruits, salad, bread, and a cereal station, which covered the lighter options. There were also pancakes, which are always a family favorite. In addition to the buffet items, guests could order a more filling breakfast in a free-flow style, including noodle soup, American breakfast, or omelet.

We found the breakfast to be satisfying and family-friendly. There was enough choice for different appetites, which is important when traveling with loved ones. Some family members may want something light, while others prefer a heartier meal, and this breakfast setup made both possible.
For families looking for a hotel with breakfast buffet in Phnom Penh, Aquarius Hotel offers a nice balance of variety and convenience.

A Relaxing Spa for Guests Who Want to Unwind
If your idea of a perfect hotel stay includes a little pampering, Aquarius Hotel also has a spa. This is a wonderful option for guests who want to relax even more during their stay. The hotel offers a 10% discount for guests, which is a thoughtful bonus.

We also appreciated that the spa prices were not too expensive compared to other hotel spas. That makes it a more accessible option for guests who want some self-care without feeling like they are overspending.
For a Mother’s Day staycation, this is especially fitting. A spa treatment can be a lovely way to celebrate and recharge, whether you are traveling solo, as a couple, or with family.
Food and Drinks Worth Trying
Aquarius Hotel also impressed us with its food and drink menu. They have an extensive list of options that you can order from your room, the restaurant, or by the pool, which is very convenient. The flexibility makes the hotel feel more like a complete destination rather than just a place to sleep.
For dinner, we ordered chicken Caesar salad, fish and chips, and roasted chicken with honey sauce. Overall, the food was good. We would describe it as satisfying and enjoyable, though not something we would call extraordinary. Still, it was exactly what we wanted for a relaxing family meal: tasty, reliable, and easy to enjoy in a comfortable setting.

For a family blog review, it is always good to be honest, and that is how we felt. The food was not the main highlight of the hotel, but it definitely contributed to the pleasant experience. Having multiple dining options also made everything feel more flexible and convenient.
Sustainable Practices We Appreciate
One thing that deserves special mention is Aquarius Hotel’s sustainable practices. We really liked that they have a water refilling station in the lobby. This is a simple but meaningful initiative that helps reduce plastic waste.
They also have an amenities box in the lobby, where guests can take only what they need, such as a toothbrush set, shaving kit, vanity kit, and similar items. This is a smart and responsible approach because it helps reduce single-use plastic waste while still making sure guests have access to the essentials.

As travelers, it is always encouraging to see hotels make an effort to be more environmentally conscious. These small details matter, and they add value to the overall guest experience.

The hotel also supports indigenous communities by helping promote their handcrafted products. At the lobby, guests can find locally made items such as bags, magnets, and other crafts, giving these groups an opportunity to showcase their skills and earn from their work.
Final Thoughts: Would We Recommend Aquarius Hotel?
Absolutely, yes.
Our Mother’s Day celebration at Aquarius Hotel was a lovely experience from start to finish. The room was bright and comfortable, the rooftop infinity pool was stunning, the breakfast buffet was satisfying, and the hotel’s amenities made the stay feel special. We enjoyed the billiards table, the spa option, and the food and drinks available throughout the hotel. We also appreciated the sustainable touches that showed thoughtfulness and care.

Of course, no hotel is perfect. The air-conditioning could have been closer to the beds, and the YouTube function on the smart TV did not work for us. But these were minor issues compared to everything we enjoyed. The overall experience was still very good, and the positives clearly outweighed the negatives.
For families looking for a family-friendly hotel in Phnom Penh, a Mother’s Day staycation spot, or a place with a rooftop infinity pool, breakfast buffet, and relaxing amenities, Aquarius Hotel is definitely worth considering.

For us, it was a beautiful way to celebrate Mother’s Day, and we would happily return again. Our final rating: 5 stars.
