London Eye River Cruise

London Eye River Cruise

Welcome back to Team Tala Travels!

In this article, we will talk to you about our London Eye River Cruise last summer.

We did this activity right after walking on the Tower Bridge and appreciating its majestic architecture.

Ever since I became interested in different countries and landmarks, I always wondered when I would set foot in London to see the iconic London Eye, Tower Bridge, and Big Ben. So, when our little sister invited us to go to England and tour around London, I did not hesitate to say yes!

One of the highlights of our London tour is the London Eye River Cruise, which is a 40-minute river cruise around the city.

My sister and brother-in-law were smart enough to book a half-day London Eye River Cruise + London Eye Ride in advance to secure a spot. They booked via Viator and we each paid 46 pounds for the package.

This tour started from the London Eye and headed along the Thames River to the Tower Bridge, before returning to its starting point. During the cruise, there were many Londoners waving hello to us from the streets, from the London Eye, or from al fresco dining restaurants. Charming, eh?

London is amazing!

We were lucky to have made it onto the ship! We almost did not make it because we just finished our Tower Bridge tour, and we did not realize how much time it would take us to walk from the Tower Bridge to the train station, and from the train station to the London Eye Pier. We were literally the last group to go onboard the ship!

Most of the passengers preferred to sit on the upper deck of the ship, probably because of a better view while in there. Luckily for us, the lower deck was almost empty. Coming from a very hot and long walk under the heat of the sun, we did not plan to sit on the roofless upper deck and be immersed in the summer heat again.

Just a minute after we entered the ship, we set off from the London Eye pier and the tour began.

During the entire trip, there was a tour guide who kept on stating funny anecdotes about London landmarks in a hilarious way. We couldn’t see him, though. I thought all the while that it was a voice over because of how flawless he spoke, but moments before the trip ended, he showed up at the bottom deck while continuing with his spiel. I guess he was staying on the upper deck the whole time.

We passed by the Westminster Palace and I got to hear facts and information about the political system in the UK, as well as what the Palace stands for and when it was built.

We also learned about one of the bridges traversing over the Thames River, the Lambeth Bridge, which was one of the filming locations of the Harry Potter series.

Passing famous London landmarks felt so surreal! I did not ever imagine in my life that right in front of my eyes, I would see the London Eye, the Big Ben, and the London Bridge!

And by the way, the London Bridge did not fall down! It is still structurally strong and proudly standing over the Thames River!

I also enjoyed the way that the tour guide did not only focus on famous landmarks around London, but also gave information about less majestic buildings along the Thames River. He gave information about the National Theater in Southbank, the Sherlock Holmes Museum, and the London Bridge Hospital. It made tourists feel that London, despite how romantic it seems, is just like any other city with hospitals, with libraries, and with theatres!

Don’t worry if a landmark is on the opposite side of your seat on the ship. The boat will do a circular route going back to the London Eye pier, so you could see landmarks you missed once the ship turns around.

What’s Next?

There is no better way to explore the city of London other than being on foot and going from one landmark to another, but if you are crunched for time, then you can certainly take the London River Cruise to see different landmarks quickly.

That’s it for our London Eye River Cruise adventure!
